Importing a vehicle from Germany to France is easy to plan once you know the order of the steps. This guide walks you through the essentials.

1. Find and check the vehicle

Check the history, service record and accident status. If in doubt, have the vehicle inspected on site before buying.

2. Purchase and documents

Make sure you receive a complete sales contract, the German registration certificates (parts I and II) and the Certificate of Conformity (COC).

3. Bringing the car to France

You can use export plates or arrange transport for the journey to France.

4. Quitus fiscal

Apply for the quitus fiscal at the responsible tax office (SIE) – it is required for registration.

5. Registration

Registration is done online via the ANTS platform. You then receive your final carte grise.
