What is a Certificate of Conformity (COC)?

The Certificate of Conformity is the key to registering an imported vehicle in the EU. Here is what you need to know.

Documents Administrator

The COC (Certificate of Conformity) is a manufacturer's certificate confirming that a vehicle complies with an EU type approval.

What is it needed for?

When registering an imported vehicle in another EU country, the authorities almost always require the COC. It contains all the technical data the registration office needs.

Where do you get it?

  • At purchase: ideally the seller hands over the original.
  • From the manufacturer: a duplicate can be ordered for a fee (roughly €100–300 depending on the brand).

Our tip

Clarify before buying whether the COC is available – it saves time and money. If it is missing, we take care of obtaining it.
